Welcome

My name is Katy Acton, founder of Love Leigh Yoga Kids.  I teach children’s yoga classes in Leigh on Sea, Essex. My classes follow a story-based approach, where yoga postures are woven into different adventures that each have a relatable emotion or moral for the children to learn about.

My journey into yoga started 22 years ago (gulp) when I was a 15 year old school girl, looking to lose some excess ‘puppy fat’ (labelled as such by well-meaning older relatives!)  I used to practice yoga before bed each night from a book that I borrowed from the library.  I have fond memories of being at slumber parties with friends throughout teen years, teaching my friends yoga postures - usually falling flat on our faces in fits of giggles!

From there I practiced yoga during my lunch hour in city gyms and during evenings in local community halls.  When I travelled in my twenties, I was lucky enough to practice yoga with teachers from all walks of life, practising all different styles.

Upon my return, I found an amazing teacher who has been my inspiration for the last decade and will continue to inspire my style as I teach.  Yoga has seen me through two pregnancies and births.  And now sees me through motherhood. Yoga even accompanied me on my psychotherapy and counselling degree, as the subject I researched for dissertation was the experience of being in counselling and yoga concurrently.

Yoga has been an important part of my life, but I wish I had discovered it even earlier.  It was this thought that led me to want to teach children’s yoga.  Practicing yoga teaches coping skills for life and helps develop connection to one’s body and self-awareness.

I completed online teacher training with Cosmic Kids of You Tube fame.  I love Jaime Amor’s energy and story-telling approach to children’s yoga.  The opportunity to explore emotions and moral issues through the stories, as well as teaching yoga, really resonated with my background as a therapist.

Above all else I hope to bring the children in my classes fun and adventure, with some learning along the way.  Yoga can make such a difference to emotional and physical wellbeing. I have witnessed and experienced it’s impact myself.

I hope to meet you and your children at a Love Leigh Yoga Kids class soon.

NAMASTE! xxxx
